Abstraction in Ink is a series of experimental choices with traditional Japanese Brush Painting forms and techniques on rice paper combined with the use of stencils and acrylic spray paint. Rice paper is an essential medium as it absorbs both the ink and the acrylic at a high saturation producing bright contrasts. The ink in these paintings I ground using the ink stick and well that I had purchased during the course I took in Japan. They have also all been backed with a wet mounting technique to alleviate the tendency of rice paper to wrinkle and stretch.
